Berms

Berms are mounded hills of dirt constructed for many reasons, such as blocking out unattractive views or creating a privacy green screen, but they were first designed to route drainage a particular way (e.g., away from the house or patio). Berms are often linear in nature, but they vary in height.

  • Creates interest in a flat landscape
  • Separates functional areas
  • Creates a wind and noise barrier
  • Creates a soil depth where soil conditions are unfavorable
  • Elevates plants to a better viewing position
